Brimbank Aquatic and Wellness Centre
Project Type: Zero-Depth Entry
Location: Melbourne, Victoria, Australia
Brimbank Aquatic and Wellness Centre in Melbourne, Australia features a unique design inspired by a French artist, Julie Lansom. Her painting titled “Sedimentations" laid the foundation for this project. Williams Ross Architects simulated the palette from “Sedimentations” to intone colors found in both aboriginal artwork and rocky seashores to complement the facility as a whole.
Life Floor’s thematic Inlays from the Australia + New Zealand set are interspersed throughout the design alongside a hopscotch game to add play value while providing diverse opportunities for engagement. Waterplay fixtures further enhance the play value of the amenity and complete the space with feature colors similar to the surfacing.
Excerpt from an Australasian Leisure Management article:
“Now in its 21st year, the Premier’s Sustainability Awards are Victoria’s most prestigious annual environmental awards program, recognising the success of businesses, local governments and communities in this area.
Brimbank City Council has won the Community Champion Award in the Sustainable Places category for the Brimbank Aquatic and Wellness Centre - billed as Australia’s first 100% renewable energy-powered, zero greenhouse gas emissions aquatic centre.
Advising that winning the award goes a long way to recognising all the hard work, technology and investment that has gone into building and operating the facility, a Council spokesperson advised ‘we could have built the standard energy intensive aquatic facility, but we decided to do something better. The Brimbank Aquatic and Wellness Centre will provide a sustainable place for fun, recreation, exercise and wellness for future generations to come.’”
