ACCESSIBILITY AND INCLUSIVITY
For All Ages and Abilities
Run, wheel, crawl, jump, tumble, and relax. Play possibilities are endless for all ages and abilities on Life Floor.
We celebrate what makes each person as unique as our cushioned, slip-resistant surfaces that invite all types of aquatic fun. People deserve to play fearlessly and boundlessly.
There isn’t one type of play just as there isn’t one type of person. Facilities with Life Floor are known to accommodate risky, imaginative, inclusive, and multi-generational play.
CERTIFIED AUTISM RESOURCE
We believe in making aquatic facilities safe and beautiful for all people regardless of age or ability. In alignment with our mission and core values, Life Floor is certified by IBCCES as a Certified Autism Resource.
Our products meet one or more Areas of Autism Competency and can be used at Certified Autism Centers worldwide.
PRODUCT FEATURES
Texture Changes for Non-Visual Signals
Texture change around pool decks improves accessibility by tactilely signaling that a depth of water is present and to use caution similar to how truncated domes function at the crosswalks of streets.
Life Floor offers different textures that can be paired to achieve non-visual signaling when used in barefoot areas such as pool decks.
Visual Signals Integrated on the Surface
Visual signals are an important safety feature to show depth changes, the presence of features, and represent a changing landscape when paired with zoning for different stages of childhood development.
Use visual signals for features, depth changes, and safety messaging such as depth markers, no-diving symbols, please walk signs, and more.
Life Floor is manufactured in over 30 colors which provides numerous design opportunities when choosing contrasting colors.
Zoning Spaces with Colorful Surfacing
Color banding is commonly used on stairs to show where the edge of the step ends, but colors can also be used in design to show different areas tailored to varying play styles.
For example, if a splash pad is zoned into 3 areas, the surfacing can be a gradient of three colors to show the transition between spaces without halting play.
By zoning spaces properly, people of all abilities can play freely without experiencing unanticipated features outside of their comfort level.
Equitable Aquatics
We believe that all aquatic spaces should be safe and fun for all people. Our products aren’t only made for luxury resorts or exclusive clubs. We love serving municipal and non-profit customers to help improve and brighten up their neighborhood amenities.
For some cities and non-profit organizations, it can be difficult to secure funding for an aquatic facility and harder still to budget for safety surfacing that reduces injuries and improves play value. That’s one of the reasons why we started our annual Make a SPLASH! Grant Contest in 2020 to provide free safety surfacing to communities in need. To learn more about the Make a SPLASH! Grant Contest, visit our Events page.
